PAUL CEZANNE (1839-1906)Born in Aix-en-Provence in 1839, he was destined to become a banker like his father. Obliged to study Classics, he registered at the Municipal Drawing School at the same time. In 1859 he moved to a studio near Aix, and in 1862 to Paris where he attended classes at the Swiss Academy. His painting was by and large rejected at the time. His first exhibition was held in 1895; however French national institutions bought none of his paintings during his lifetime. He died in Aix in 1906.
